Who We Are

The Francis DeGaulle Njie Foundation is a charitable organisation initially set up in 2006 by the family of the late DeGaulle, as he was fondly referred to by friends and associates, in commemoration of the values of excellence and dedication to service that he stood for throughout his short but exemplary life.

In 2017, after the sudden passing of DeGaulle’s sister, Isatou Neneh Girl Mboge, a subsidiary charity by the name of Isatou Mboge Award for Girls’ Empowerment (IMAGE) was established in her memory and legacy.

As a charitable organisation, the Foundation’s aim is to contribute to the enhancement of the educational system in The Gambia by providing financial support to outstanding science students, and to raise cancer awareness and provide support to individuals and families affected by cancer.

Our Mission

The Foundation’s aim is to contribute to the enhancement of the educational system in The Gambia by providing financial support to outstanding science students, and to raise cancer awareness and provide support to individuals and families affected by cancer. In addition, we seek to help women and girls access the high quality maternal health care they need to be able to give birth safely.

Our Vision

We envision a day when all promising and talented Gambian students will be equipped to achieve their full potential and successfully take on the urgent social challenges in the Gambia and elsewhere in Africa. FDNF will lead the way in ensuring that success-driven students will have access to high-quality education and educational resources when they need it.

We also envision a day when a cancer diagnosis in the Gambia is not a sombre prediction of certain and imminent death; when all cancer patients have access to high quality medical as well as palliative care, so that whether their illness is treatable or not, they will receive the care they need through high-performing professionals in clean, calm and dignified surroundings, where they are treated with the utmost respect, care and professionalism.

We also envision a day when women and girls in The Gambia and other sub-Saharan African countries are empowered through education to enable them to access quality maternity health care, where risks are significantly reduced and problems in pregnancy are detected and treated at an early stage, so that women can deliver their babies in well-equipped hospitals and health centres with properly trained midwives, doctors and support staff.
